As I flew out of the UK yesterday I wondered what I was leaving and what I would be coming back to next time I visited.
These two photos taken on the same walk around a small village sum up my thoughts. Either the Union Jack will be flying proud, or it will be caught up in the debris after the passing of the ‘flood water’ that was more powerful and uncontrollable than anyone had expected.
In the thin winter light
the setting sun
throws its final breath
on the fields below.
Bare branched trees
and muddy tracks
herald winter.

Lake Ballard, a salt lake in Western Australia’s Goldfields, is home to 51 metal figures sculpted by Antony Gormley. He’s perhaps most famous for The Angel of the North, a steel sculpture 20 metres high with a 54 metre wingspan, located in Gateshead in the North East of England.
